JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing all financial functions of the council to ensure the financial health of the organization and sound fiscal control that support and reinforce the Girl Scout philosophy and Council standards. The Chief Financial Officer provides leadership and management oversight to the Finance and Information Technology teams. The CFO works in partnership with other operational areas to support the council's mission, goals, and strategic priorities.                                                    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversees the management of all the council's financial assets and responsibilities.
  2. Works with the Chief Executive Officer in the development and management of the annual operating and capital budgets.
  3. Prepares financial statements, cash flow projections, forecasts, and other financial reports.
  4. Along with the Finance Committee manages the Council's investments to ensure maximum return and compliance with investment policies.
  5. Integrates departmental operating budgets; provides monthly budget to actual reports to managers; and works with senior management to protect assets and contribute to prudent management and decision making
  6. Serves as the Council liaison to the finance committee, audit committee and board treasurer to ensure the board of directors effectively executes its fiduciary responsibility.
  7. In cooperation with the audit committee, retain an independent auditor to insure an unqualified annual audit.
  8. Negotiates and renews all council insurance packages.
  9. Maintains the council's banking and legal relationships for all corporate banking and property transactions.
  10. Oversees the Girl Scouts Activity Accident Insurance applications and claims and Workers Compensation claims.
  11. Oversees Information Technology functions of the council.
  12. Supervises the Finance and Information Technology teams; monitors and evaluates employee performance, providing ongoing feedback to maximize productivity and excellent customer service.
  13. Participates in the interviewing and selection of new hires.
  14. Provides coaching, development, and training opportunities to improve employee performance and job satisfaction.
  15. Communicates employee expectations; set team goals; plans assigns and monitors work; and provides support for problem solving and conflict resolution.
  16. Prepares a variety of status reports, including activity, follow-up, and adherence to goals.
  17. Works with cross-functional teams to develop innovative techniques to ensure on-going effective delivery of the recruitment and placement strategies.
  18. Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scouts message of pluralism and diversity to members of the Council.
  19. Promotes and assists with Council-wide programs, activities, public relations, and fund development endeavors.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

 POSITION QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and 5 years' experience in corporate level accounting and bookkeeping (non-profit finance experience preferred but not required)
  • Prior experience with financial management, budget administration, risk management, and project management
  • Previous experience or demonstrate understanding of Information Technology management
  • Minimum 3 years direct management and supervisory experience
  • Current understanding of federal, state, and local accounting rules and regulations
  • Experience with integrated accounting software
  • Experience with third party payroll software
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends, as needed
  • Ability to sit upright and view computer screen for hours at a time
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Belief in and supports the mission of Girl Scouts
