Finance Assistant

This is a part-time positons 30 hrs per week between the hours of 8-5 Monday through Friday

Job Summary: The Finance Assistant provides regular data entry and controls to ensure segregation of duties and fiduciary controls for the entire council in conformity with Council goals, policies, and standards as established by Girl Scouts of the USA and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs accurate and data entry for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable 
  2. Maintains comprehensive listings of all council troop, service unit and day camp bank accounts and corresponding ACH records. (Requires extensive and time-consuming research.)
  3. Find and close old Girl Scout bank accounts.
  4. Prepares, reconciles and data enters cash receipt and bank deposit information from all office and camp locations.
  5. Assists Accountant and CFO with other accounting and insurance duties as assigned, as time permits.
  6. Coordinates storage of accounting and payroll records and maintains all storage records for the council.
  7. Works with cross-functional teams to develop innovative techniques to ensure ongoing support for council strategic plans and goals.
  8. Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council.
  9. Promotes and assists with Council-wide programs, activities, public relations and fund development endeavors.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent with two years of clerical experience in a networked computer environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Experience working with accounting software or bookkeeping

COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience in Windows 7, Microsoft Office Professional (primarily Word and Excel), Outlook email, and accounting software.
  • Verbal and communication skills
  • Ability and sensitivity to work with others of different backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles
  • Planning, organizing, and implementing a multi-faceted workload

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works independently and as part of a cross functional team
  • Office enviornment 
  • Sitting and working at a computer for several hours at a time
